Denise McGaha
Denise McGaha, PhD, is a licensed psychotherapist whose work explores the emotional and spiritual landscapes of women’s lives. Drawing from four decades of clinical experience in the US/UK and a lifelong curiosity about culture, resilience and identity, she writes about the complexities of womanhood — including relationships, trauma, healing, belonging and self-worth.
Denise’s writing blends psychological depth with soulful reflection, shaped by her professional and life experiences. She has had deep firsthand experience of listening to women’s stories and witnessing their struggles and strengths across diverse backgrounds. Denise brings interpersonal insight, compassion and respect into the challenges that women face, with the aim of supporting and empowering them. She invites readers to reclaim their voices, rewrite their narratives and rediscover the power of emotional truth.
In addition to her professional work, Denise is influenced by her childhood in rural South Carolina and her passion for travel and meeting new people. She has visited twenty-one countries on six continents (so far) and loves experiencing and learning about other cultures, in particular meeting people and hearing their stories, whether on a plane, train, bus, taxi, or just walking down a street. She also lived in London for nine years with her husband and two sons.
Denise considers herself a humanitarian. She has mentored at a local high school and sponsored several girls in Kenya. She visited Kenya several times as a mentor and continues to provide financial support to Hekima Place, a faith-based home and school for orphaned girls in Kenya founded by Kate Fletcher. She would invite others to become involved in this wonderful program.
For the past several years, Denise has been riding the “Korean wave” by enjoying K-dramas and music, visiting Korea, and learning the language. She has discovered that these experiences of music and storytelling remove barriers caused by language and culture, and through them has found the impetus to complete her first manuscript.
Denise currently lives in Texas with her husband, two sons, nine cats, a dog and a turtle, the four-legged of which were all rescued and adopted. In her compassion for the welfare of animals, she also takes care of three feral cats that live in her neighborhood and participates in the local feral Trap Neuter Release (TNR) program.
